When I moved to Canada four years ago, I was eager to continue my career in teaching. With a strong background in education, returning to the classroom felt like the natural choice. The joy of teaching and shaping young minds was something I couldn't leave behind. However, as I settled into my new role, I encountered a challenge that was unexpected, at least in my experience: financial instability during periods when school wasn’t in session.
In my specific teaching position, I found that while the extended breaks—two and a half months in summer, three weeks in winter, and a spring break—provided ample time for rest, they also came with a downside. Unlike my previous experiences, these breaks were unpaid, and there were no festival bonuses to supplement my income. For me, what seemed like a lot of free time quickly became a source of financial stress. The reality of managing long stretches without a paycheck was daunting.
Recognizing this challenge, I realized I needed a way to supplement my income throughout the year. I began exploring opportunities that would allow me to work from home after teaching hours—something flexible that fit within my lifestyle. After some research, I discovered an online platform that offered the perfect solution, allowing me to generate income on my own time.
Starting a side business became the answer to my financial concerns. Now, I no longer have to worry about unpaid vacations or what will happen after I retire from teaching. This side business provides me with a steady stream of income all year round, giving me peace of mind and financial security.
This experience is unique to my situation, and I recognize that not all teaching jobs in Canada may have the same financial challenges. However, for me, this journey into entrepreneurship has opened new possibilities. My eventual goal is to transition from teaching to becoming a full-time entrepreneur, where I can fully dedicate myself to growing my business and exploring new ventures. This path offers me both financial stability and the freedom to shape my own future. I hope that by sharing my story, others in similar situations might find inspiration to explore opportunities that work best for them.
